Reading scheme announced in Ladbroke Grove
Schools minister Nick Gibb dropped into a Ladbroke Grove primary school to kick start a national reading competition.
He chose Thomas Jones Primary School in St Marks Road for its impressive reading record - all of its 11 year-olds reach the expected level, and 60% exceed it, despite around two-thirds of pupils not having English as a first language.
This beats the London average of 43% of pupils achieving higher than the expected level in reading.
The competition was announced on Tuesday and is aimed at encouraging seven to 12 year-old pupils to read more books for pleasure. It will launch in September.
