West London Action for Children Quiz evening 2009

Bective Leslie Marsh were once again very happy to sponsor and be involved with the West London Action for Children annual quiz evening. The event was well attended and had a French flavour for the evening. The event raised considerable funds for the local charity and the support given by Bective Leslie Marsh was said by the organisers to be 'invaluable' to the charity and the evening.

Brook Green Association Awards

Bective Leslie Marsh are proud to support the Brook Green Association Awards which benefit the local community and surrounding area. Two prizes were awarded, second place to the PTA of Larmenier Sacred Heart Primary School for enhancing the school community by turning a plot of wasteland into a fully functioning vegetable garden for the children to maintain, making sure they know that vegetables don’t come straight from Tescos!

First place was awarded to Father Terry and the Holy Trinity Church for organising and running the first ever Brook Green Literary Festival in March which was a great success and is planned to be an annual event. It had some big name local authors running workshops and making speeches. (please contact Laurie Farr for further details 020 7603 5181).

The awards were presided over by the Brook Green Association, many members of the community, Bective Leslie Marsh and were presented by Sarah Sands (editor in chief of Readers Digest UK).

The Special Yoga Centre Art Auction

The Special Yoga Centre in Kensal Rise held its second annual art auction on the 1st May 2008 in association with Bective Leslie Marsh. It raised funds for the centre which is a haven of tranquility and works with disabled children from in and around the area.

The first art auction, held last summer, featured world renowned artists including Damien Hirst, Mary McCartney, Tracey Emin and Gerald Scarfe. The money raised was instrumental in continuing and expanding the Yoga for the Special Child programme, which offers yoga therapy to infants and children with a wide range of special needs including cerebral palsy, Down’s syndrome, autism, epilepsy, ADD, ADHD and more. Currently over 350 special needs children are being helped.

WLAC Bridge Evening

As the official sponsors for all of the West London Action for Children (WLAC) events for the year. Bective Leslie Marsh were very happy to be involved with a bridge evening which was held in aid of the charity and raised over £2000. We were able to provide Bective Leslie Marsh playing cards for the event as well as the drinks and invitations for the evening. Good fun was had by all involved and well done to all players who participated!

WLAC Neighborhood Nosh

Drinks at No. 4, Starters at No. 16, Dinner at No. 56… Come and meet and eat with your neighbours! The WLAC neighborhood nosh which involved 120 members of the Brook Green community coming together for a neighborhood supper moving around the houses for the various courses was a fantastic opportunity for good food and wine and meeting more members of the local community. London can be a very anonymous place at times and it is events such as these which give the area a more ‘villagy’ feel and raises money for charity.

The Neuroblastoma Society

The Neuroblastoma Society is a charity very close to the heart of Bective Leslie Marsh. In 2006, Stuart Mason (Ladbroke Grove office) drove a scooter from London to Monte Carlo in memory of his son Felix who lost the battle to the disease in 2005, aged 6, and to raise awareness and funds for the charity. Neuroblastoma is a rare and aggressive childhood cancer. About 100 children in the UK are diagnosed each year. The Society works exclusively for these children in raising funds for British research into the disease, and offering information and support for anyone affected by Neuroblastoma.

The Salvation Army

The Salvation Army is a favourite charity of Bective Leslie Marsh not least because of their almost instantaneous impact on society. Mark Chick (Notting Hill office) donated some old clothes one morning, then later in the day was walking down Portobello Road and saw someone wearing his jumper! The Salvation Army is one of the largest, most diverse providers of social services in the UK after the Government. Founded in East London in 1865, they are now working in 111 countries worldwide.
